Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long is the turnaround time when I mail in instruments?
Usually only 1-2 days!!! Unless I am out of town, I pride myself on going to the post office every day and sharpening your instruments as quickly as possible. I suggest calling (602-499-0870) or emailing (Info@pisharpening.com) before you mail them just in case I’m out of town for a dental training or vet show.
  • What do I do after I mail them?
Please email me (Info@pisharpening.com) the tracking number so I can register for a text from the post office as soon as it arrives. This helps me get your instruments back to you as fast as possible.
  • I can’t be without my instruments, what options are there?
That’s why I offer FREE loaner dental instruments. Just let me know if you would like me to mail my instruments to you. I can mail them and then just mail yours to me. Just cover shipping and you will never be without the tools you need! Loaner instruments are a set of winged-tipped elevators, a periosteal elevator, and a scissor.
  • Can I get my instruments done faster?
Yes! You are also welcome to send your instruments overnight. Call (602-499-0870) or email (Info@pisharpening.com) me before you send them to make sure I am available to get them right away. If you want them also sent back overnight, just note that on the submission form.
  • Do you sharpen other instruments besides what is listed?
YES! If you don’t see it listed, just send me an email (Info@pisharpening.com) with a picture of it and I will let you know if I can sharpen it.
  • Do you sharpen human instruments?
Yes! Many veterinary and human instruments are the same. Just make sure they are sterilized before sending them.
  • Do you sharpen clipper blades?
No, sorry. We only want to sharpen tools that we are experts at and we are not experienced at clipper blades. I recommend Ryan's Pet Supply in Phoenix for mail-in clipper blade sharpening.
  • Why shouldn’t I have the guy in the “VAN” sharpen our tools?
Be careful! I’ve seen countless dental instruments completely ruined for services like this. I might trust them for scissors but, dental instruments need medical experience and specialized training.
  • Do you teach people how to sharpen instruments?
Yes. If you would like to learn how to maintain your instruments, I can show you. I teach Zoom or in-person classes. Remember, send your tools to us first to get them perfect then you can maintain them with the help of one of Jennifer’s classes.
  • Should I just buy a honing machine and do it myself?
I don’t recommend that. The honing machine is amazing but, it’s very powerful and any mistake can instantly destroy your instrument. The machine can also be dangerous to you if done wrong. The first time I used one, I had the scaler pointing in the wrong direction and it went flying through the air, sliced my finger, and almost hit my coworker in the face! We have years of practice so let us do it for you!
  • Are my instruments insured?
Yes. I send them flat-rate Priority Mail which comes with $100 insurance. If you would like more insurance, just write it on the submission form.
  • How do I send you my instruments?
Watch the packaging video and read the instructions on the submission form. I want your instruments to get to me without getting damaged or falling out of the box.
  • How do we pay you?
I will email you an invoice right after your sharpening is completed. You can conveniently pay the bill with a credit card directly through the invoice. If you want to send a check, please mail it to the address on the submission form. I appreciate payment at the time of service just like with your clients.
